Wells Cathedral School

The Challenge

Wells Cathedral School is a co-educational independent school located Somerset. The school is one of the five specialist musical schools for school-aged children in the UK and as such they produce a brochure each season for performances held at the school.

The performance schedule is an important part of school life and development as each performance is a culmination of hours of practice and training. The Wells Cathedral School brochure ensures that local communities can benefit from these performances and students experience performing in front of a live audience.

We were asked to saturate local areas surrounding Wells, ensuring that a huge mixture of venues where covered throughout Somerset. For the Spring, Summer and Autumn seasons, each brochure should be dropped to the same venues to ensure a local familiarity with the school and the performance programme.

Quantities: 8,000 A5/14 brochures per season.


The Strategy

Culture Calling built bespoke runs in the following local areas:

Cheddar, Glastonbury & Street
Tauton, Bridgewater & Langport
Wells
Wincanton, Sherborne and Yeovil
Frome, Sheperton Mallet, Bruton & Castle Cary

Each run was compiled of 40 venues and venue consisted of local arts centres, cafes, family attractions, libraries, music shops, bookshops, museums and TICs. These venues were researched and pre-approved by the school for distribution.

In addition to targeting these local hotspots we also did some significant distribution work in the two closest cities to Wells – Bristol & Bath.

Brochure were sent out on the Bristol and Bath Arts and Culture runs which included venues such as Bristol Old Vic, The Roman Baths, Colston Hall and Arnolfini.

The Results

Increased local engagement with the school’s performance programme from areas within an hour’s drive of the school.

A total of 240 venues covered throughout Somerset each season with the Wells Cathedral Brochures.

8,000 brochures taken out person season to the same venues.
